When Wisdom Teeth Need to be extracted:

Are your wisdom teeth causing you discomfort or pain? It could be time for extraction.

Sometimes there is nothing that can be done to save a tooth. When restorative procedures such as root canal therapy, crowns or fillings aren’t enough to save a tooth, your dentist will recommend tooth extraction as the best course of treatment. Typically a tooth extraction is a last resort. Your Holland Cross dentist will always try to work with what remains of your natural tooth in order to try and preserve it. In cases when the root of the tooth is damaged beyond repair, tooth extraction will be considered.

The good news is that, with advancements in dentistry such as lasers, ultrasonics & more, tooth extractions can be done with:

  • Minimally invasive procedures
  • Less pain
  • Accelerated recovery time

At Holland Cross, we specialize in gentle tooth extraction.

We’re here to ensure a smooth recovery

While tooth extraction as the result of trauma or damage is less common, the extraction of wisdom teeth is the most common form of extraction among the general public. Wisdom teeth are located at the back of the mouth and are the final set of molars to show up in the mouth. These teeth usually grow in during the late teen years and many people experience problems with their wisdom teeth. Most people have these teeth extracted between the ages of 17 to 25 years of age.

There are several complications that can arise when the wisdom teeth grow in that can result in their need to be extracted. The most common scenario requiring the removal of the wisdom teeth is when the new teeth grow too close to the adjacent molars. This can result in over-crowding and misalignment of teeth, improper bite and even infection. If you are experiencing discomfort, inflammation or tenderness towards the back of your mouth, it is recommended you consult with a dentist.

If you are experiencing moderate to severe pain from a tooth it is important to contact your dentist as soon as possible. If you have any questions or want to schedule an appointment today, please call our office.
