Having These Problematic Teeth Extracted before Using Clear Braces
Today, most young adults will undergo wisdom teeth removal surgery in their late teens or early twenties at the urging of their dentist in order to prevent teeth crowding, or worse, a serious infection later on in life.
However, many young adults who do not have any pain associated with teeth overcrowding will choose not to proceed with the removal of the problem teeth until it is absolutely necessary—I was actually one of them.
In my early twenties, I never took the time to take care of my oral health and, as a result, I had slightly misaligned teeth. Then, one day I woke up in severe pain which lead me to request an urgent appointment with my dentist who confirmed that one of my impacted wisdom teeth was infected.
After undergoing surgery to correct this problem, I began speaking to several young adults who wanted to align their teeth in order to achieve a perfect and natural-looking smile, and were thus considering getting Invisalign.
I wondered whether they too would be advised to undergo surgery before getting such an alignment treatment in order to benefit from the effects of the Invisalign clear braces in the long-term. It seems most young adults would benefit from having their wisdom teeth surgically removed before getting clear braces. This would reduce the risk of the mouth being over-crowded, and allow the teeth to move around more freely.
However, there is a portion of the population for which wisdom teeth are not a cause of concern. This is because they haven’t erupted, or have erupted in a straight fashion, so that the adjacent teeth aren’t affected.
Of course, adults who already had their wisdom teeth removed are excellent candidates for clear braces, especially if their teeth are now quite misaligned due to having had these teeth removed later in life.
Invisalign is a wonderful way to get that perfect smile, and your dentist will be more than happy to discuss how to achieve optimal results. As for me, I am counting the hours until I get a chance to speak to my own dentist about the possibility of getting clear braces. Even though I wish I would have taken further care of my dental health as a young adult, it seems that achieving my dream smile is only one appointment away!
