Our teeth may be strong and deeply rooted, but at the same time they are sensitive and need to be handled ever so carefully when being cleaned and maintained. Knowing the best way to take care of them is important, but knowledge of things to avoid doing, can be just as powerful (if not more at times).
Here are some things to avoid doing, or if you currently do them to consider stopping, in order to promote stronger and healthier teeth:
Coffee Consumption
This is something that may be impossible for some people to stop, or even cut back doing. Besides making you jittery, consuming too much coffee will cause your teeth to stain. Teeth whitening can reverse the staining, but preventing it from happening in the first place is an easier solution.
Ice Cubes and other Hard Objects
They may be excellent at chilling a warm drink, but shouldn’t be bitten on by themselves. If one begins a habit of biting on ice cubes or other hard objects, there is an increased risk of chipping and/or breaking teeth. Unlike the ice, that wouldn’t be cool at all.
Thumb Sucking
This applies more to children, but can affect adults as well. Constant sucking of the thumb can cause teeth to become misaligned and create unwanted dental issues.
The best repetitive action you should get into involving your teeth is brushing, flossing and rinsing!
